Do you want to learn how to be a world class, competition level, BBQ Judge? Here is your chance.
The Barnett Reservoir Foundation, sponsors of the 5th annual Smokin’ on The Rez BBQ and Music Festival Sept. 15-17, will also hold a barbecue judging class at 6 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 14 at the Ridgeland Rec Center overlooking Old Trace Park.
BBQ enthusiasts are invited to this Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned class to become certified to judge KCBS contests – like Smokin’ on The Rez – all around the country. That also includes the Jacktown Throwdown BBQ Competition in Jackson March 16-17, 2018.
The nearly three-hour class will include instruction on how to judge and score by KCBS rules. Of course, to accomplish that requires a full sampling of the four categories of meat judged at KCBS events – chicken, ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket – all prepared by an experienced KCBS pit master for those enrolled in the class.
Cost of the class is $55 for current KCBS members who register and pay the class fee by Sept. 7, and $60 the week of the class.
For non-KCBS members, the cost is $95 prior to Sept. 7, and $100 the week of the class. The fee includes your $40 first-year membership in KCBS.
